The Informal Settlements Unit (ISU) continues to advance its mission of building safer and more sustainable communities with the successful hosting of a Community Caravan in the North Stubbs Creek Point, Five Cays community on Saturday March 1, 2025.

The event brought together key stakeholders dedicated to community development and social well-being, including the Health Promotions and Advocacy Unit of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, the Department of Social Development and Welfare, the Rotaract Club of Providenciales, the Turks and Caicos Islands Bar Association Free Legal Advice Clinic, the Paradise Smiles TCI Dental Clinic, and the Turks and Caicos Islands Diabetic Association. Attendees benefited from free health and dental screenings, legal advice, and essential information on diabetes management, lifestyle disease prevention, and social support services.

As part of the ISU’s ongoing Social Needs Assessment Survey initiative, which is being rolled out in informal settlements across the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Community Caravan served as a platform for meaningful engagement between residents and critical service providers. The North Stubbs Creek Point, Five Cays Community Caravan marks the second of its kind, following the ISU’s inaugural event in the Robinson Street community in 2024. Data collection in Robinson Street is expected to conclude in March 2025, paving the way for data collection to begin in the North Stubbs Creek Point, Five Cays area.

Building strong relationships with community members is a key component of the ISU’s approach. By fostering trust and engagement through initiatives like the Community Caravan, the ISU creates a foundation for effective data collection and informed decision-making. This process ensures that policies and interventions are tailored to the unique needs of informal settlements, promoting sustainable development and improved living conditions.
